Pairing, Sharing & Caring
Shared Lives is a care and support model that provides innovative, family/household-based support to adults with various support needs. In shared lives an adult who needs support and accommodation is matched to an approved shared lives carer and moves in with them. Together they share family and community life. Shared lives can used by people with various support needs, including learning disabilities, mental ill health, and those with a complexity of support needs. Support may be live-in or used for respite or day support. Shared lives are officially the highest rated form of adult social care provision in England.
In Southend, the scheme provides support to adults and people with care act eligible needs from the age of sixteen who have a learning disability. Shared Lives is regulated under the activity of personal care as defined in the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2012.
Shared Lives schemes are responsible for the recruitment, assessment and approval of people wishing to become shared lives hosts/carers, the review and ongoing support of carers and training. The scheme is a member of Shared Lives Plus.
The Southend Shared Lives team are made up of three Shared Lives Social Workers, Business Support and a Recruitment and Marketing officer.
