Assistant Chef

Southend Care is seeking an Assistant Chef to working alongside our catering team to deliver high-quality, nutritious meals that make a real difference to the lives of our residents.

Key Responsibilities

• Support in planning, preparing, and serving varied menus that promote residents’ health and wellbeing.
• Ensure all meals meet dietary requirements, including specialist diets.
• Follow food hygiene and safety standards to create a safe, welcoming kitchen environment.
• Assist with stock control, ordering, and budgeting to keep the kitchen running smoothly.
• Step up to deputise for the Head Chef when required, including attending meetings.
• Help supervise and develop catering staff, fostering teamwork and high standards.

We understand the importance of a healthy work life balance, the rota includes:

• Early shift: 7am – 3pm
• Late shift 10.30am – 6pm
• Every other weekend off

 About You

We’re looking for someone who brings:

• A warm, personable approach with a genuine passion for supporting residents’ wellbeing.
• City & Guilds/NVQ/SVQ or equivalent in catering.
• Experience working in a busy kitchen, with the ability to meet deadlines and prioritise tasks.
• A strong commitment to customer service and quality.
• Experience catering for large numbers (care sector knowledge would be advantageous
• A professional, organised and team focused approach
• A commitment to the values & ethos of Southend Care
