Priory House provides quality residential care for older people who may need support with a variety of needs. The home also has a number of assessment beds to support people who have recently been discharged from hospital before they head home.

Case Study

Gil Batchelor

Gil, aged 85, came to Priory House in August 2018 for an assessment period. He had recently lost his wife, and before his admission, Gil had become increasingly confused and was putting himself at risk.

For his first two weeks at Priory, Gil didn’t sleep at all, was in an agitated state, and was occasionally aggressive towards the carers. He needed one to one care and supervision at all times.

Priory House has excellent links with the local surgery, including a Dementia Nurse Practitioner, Jackie Smith. Gil’s medication was reviewed and intensive staff support was tailored to his needs. Gil started to sleep well and he gradually became much less agitated. Staff reported that he was a ‘delight to be around’.

He wrote his life history during his stay and enjoyed helping out in the garden. On 26th September 2018, Gil was able to return home, with support from his family.

Samantha has extensive experience and is passionate about dignified, person centred care, which enables people to enjoy the best possible quality of life. She has a petting dog called Parker who visits the home regularly. In her spare time Samantha enjoys badminton, roller skating, sea kayaking, cycling and long dog walks.

Deputy Manager

Tricia has over thirty years’ experience in health and social care, and as Deputy Manager, is integral to the smooth running of the service. With high standards and attention to detail, Tricia is able to share her knowledge with new staff and drives forward continual improvements within the service.

Janice Van-Dyke

Team Leader

Before joining the team at Priory, Janice had worked in a variety of settings; including the local hospital, where she worked on wards focusing on rehabilitation and discharge planning. Janice brings a great deal of experience to the service and is passionate about providing support in a person-centred way.

Tracey Underwood

Team Leader

Tracey has worked for Southend Care at Priory House since December 2017. She has over 20 years’ experience in Health and Social care and has a particular interest in staff development and training. Tracey enjoys the diverse nature of her role at Priory and is passionate about person centred care.

Emma Marston

Emma Marston

Team Leader

Emma has over eight years’ experience in health and social care, and has worked in a variety of roles across several services within Southend Care. She has progressed during this time and gained promotion to her current Team Leader post at Priory House in 2018.
