Gil, aged 85, came to Brook Meadows House for an assessment period. He had recently lost his wife, and before his admission, Gil had become increasingly confused and was putting himself at risk.
For his first two weeks at Brook Meadows House, Gil didn’t sleep at all, was in an agitated state, and was occasionally aggressive towards the carers. He needed one to one care and supervision at all times.
Brook Meadows House has excellent links with the local surgery, including a Dementia Nurse Practitioner, Jackie Smith. Gil’s medication was reviewed and intensive staff support was tailored to his needs. Gil started to sleep well and he gradually became much less agitated. Staff reported that he was a ‘delight to be around’.
He wrote his life history during his stay and enjoyed helping out in the garden. Gil was eventually able to return home, with support from his family.
