Case Study

Gil Batchelor

Gil, aged 85, came to Brook Meadows House for an assessment period. He had recently lost his wife, and before his admission, Gil had become increasingly confused and was putting himself at risk.

For his first two weeks at Brook Meadows House, Gil didn’t sleep at all, was in an agitated state, and was occasionally aggressive towards the carers. He needed one to one care and supervision at all times.

Brook Meadows House has excellent links with the local surgery, including a Dementia Nurse Practitioner, Jackie Smith. Gil’s medication was reviewed and intensive staff support was tailored to his needs. Gil started to sleep well and he gradually became much less agitated. Staff reported that he was a ‘delight to be around’.

He wrote his life history during his stay and enjoyed helping out in the garden. Gil was eventually able to return home, with support from his family.

“As a family, we can’t thank you enough for not only being so wonderful with JS but for always keeping our mind at rest about him.  It was only supposed to be for two weeks, but you made him smile again so two years later he was still with you all.”

Relative

“Thanks for looking after our dad for the past six years. He was obviously very happy there and it has been a comfort to know that his last years were spent with people who genuinely cared about him.”

Relative

“Making the decision for GB to reside in a care home was necessary but not an easy thing for him or his close family. But you all made that transition stress-free and Priory House became his home.”

Relative

“All of the staff are so good here, they are kind, caring and gentle. They treat my relative like their own family.”
